Exotic Erotic Concoction

Scroll

Exotic Erotic Concoction marks Dan Webb’s bold transition from his rock roots into the ethereal realms of instrumental electronic and experimental soundscapes. Created over nearly four years, this third album showcases Webb’s evolving artistry as he embraces an intricate blend of future jazz, synthwave, dub, and psychedelic textures.

His first fully instrumental album, it invites listeners to immerse themselves in a genre-fluid atmosphere, with each track unfolding as a unique, unpredictable experience.

The album’s eclectic identity stems from Webb’s immersion in a vast array of new global music, which he encountered daily through his Sungenre project. The influx of influences sparked an unrestrained approach to his own music, resulting in tracks that freely cross musical boundaries. Working largely in solitude, Webb experimented with loops and samples from his extensive catalogue of demos, pushing his creative limits. Only keyboardist Daniel Mougerman—who performed alongside Webb in his 2015 live band—joins the production, adding a rich layer of keys that deepens the album’s expansive soundscape.

Through Exotic Erotic Concoction, Webb grapples with themes of escapism and introspection, captured in track titles alluding to pharmaceuticals and the pervasive search for relief in an anxious world. Freed from lyrical constraints, Webb’s intricate compositions become a meditative soundtrack, inviting listeners to interpret and navigate their own narratives within the music’s shifting atmospheres.
A daring departure from the familiar, Exotic Erotic Concoction showcases Webb’s embrace of experimental freedom, making it both an homage to his past and an open invitation into his evolving sonic future.
